What is the purpose of obtaining uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage?
Return to Video FAQsTranscript:
The purpose of obtaining uninsured or under insured motors coverage is so that you’re protected in the event you get hit by a negligent driver who causes the accident, causes you this damage, but they don’t have any bodily injury liability coverage. They might have auto insurance but if they don’t have a specific type of coverage called Bodily Injury Liability coverage, then they do not have any insurance to pay for a claim or a lawsuit or judgment that you might get against them for their negligence. And that’s where your own uninsured, or under insured motorist coverage would kick in. It would pay for the judgment that you get against the negligent driver for which that person can not pay your judgment, or doesn’t have insurance coverage to pay that judgment.
