Marchman/Baker Act
Marchman Act
Drug and alcohol abuse affects all levels of our community. In the State of Florida there is legislation in place to involuntarily commit an individual who has lost self- control with his or her addiction. This process is very time sensitive and can be complicated, but can lead to a foundation for the individual to recover from the addiction and get their life back! Our firm understands this process and can help the family member and loved ones navigate through the court process to help get the individual help.
Baker Acts
Chapter 394 of The Florida Statutes provides for an individual to be civilly committed if they meet certain criteria. A person meets the criteria to be civil committed pending evaluation if it is alleged in the petition that the individual poses a threat to harm themselves, harm another, or is unable to care for themselves because of a mental illness.
